Newstalk 980 CKNW is known to be a Class A radio network which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It operates on a frequency of 980 at AM band and features News and Talk format. The catchphrase of the channel is Vancouver’s News Vancouver’s Talk which describes its format. It uses brand name Global News Talk 980 CKNW. It is also New Westminster’s News-Leader. The radio is operated by Corus Entertainment, and they also owned it. The sibling networks of the station are CFMI-FM, CFOX -FM, and CHMJ-FM.



It uses the power of fifty thousand watts to run its operations. The studios and offices of the radio are located at TD Tower in downtown Vancouver, Canada. Corus Radio network itself is the affiliate of the channel. It began its programming on 15 August 1944. 

CKNW started airing its broadcast from BC on 15 August 1944. It worked on a frequency of 1230 AM in the beginning. It was developed by Bill Rea’s International Broadcasting Company. The station flipped its frequency from 1230 AM to 1320 AM later on 2 January 1949. It also increased its power from 250 to 1000 watts in the same year. Bill Rea was sick; therefore, he couldn’t pay attention to the radio. Frank Griffiths and the Allard Family bought it from Bill in Feb 1956. Soon after this, a Western Broadcasting Company was formed by Frank Griffiths and the Allard Family. Later, they changed its name from WBC to WIC, which means Western International Communications. Corus Entertainment purchased both CFMI and CKNW in 2000.

Some of the popular presenters of the station are Simi Sara, Jon McComb, Bruce Allen, and Charles Adler. Roy Gree and Michael Campbell also acquired quite a number of fans.
