A Little History About Afghan War and What Started It
Taliban had control over the most of Afghanistan since 1996,
but they were eradicated by both American and British Armed forces in November
2001; many of the Afghan fighters called Northern Alliance also took part in
the war.
Why was a war in Afghanistan?
During the reign of the Taliban, an organization called
Al-Qaeda was established by the group in Afghanistan; they set up different
training camps in several parts of the country. In Sep 2001, there was a
terrorist attack at Twins Tower USA, which resulted in 3000 deaths causalities.
The US Government believed that the head of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden is
responsible for this act. The United States pressurized the Afghan Government
to hand over Osama Bin Laden. But the Taliban didn’t agree to that, so the US
military decided to act on its own.
Thus, in Oct 2001, the US armed forces started to bomb
different places in Afghanistan. Their targets were both Al-Qaeda of Bin-Laden
and the Taliban. In November 2001, an inside group Northern Alliance also
joined forces with US troops and other countries that were agreed to help,
including the United Kingdom. It took control of the capital of Afghanistan,
Kabul. Even though the Taliban group was eradicated from the capital still its
ghosts haunt the place till today. Al Jazeera Arabic Live provided each and every detail about the Afghan War on its channel.
Ten years after the war, in 2011, Osama was shot and killed
by American forces in Pakistan; it was a covert operation consisted of very few
soldiers.
However, after killing Bin Laden successfully, US troops and British forces didn’t leave the grounds immediately. They stayed there to help the Afghan Government in stabilizing the country. Even today, United States has a base there, which is a home of a few thousand soldiers. However, the country is in peace now, still, there are some small businesses yet to solve or taken care of.
